A long day at university ahead? Folia lists six places to eat around UvA campuses where students can get a good (and affordable) lunch.
Science Park 341
Although Science Park is not exactly located in a part of the city that is overflowing with lunch options, hungry students can always turn to this döner stand. Be sure to try one of the more unusual dishes, such as the Fredsalon: a twist on the classic kapsalon, made with spring rolls instead of chips.
Spuistraat 102
At this Italian takeaway spot – just around the corner from the PC Hoofthuis – a freshly made sandwich will cost you less than five euros. The selection is varied, so both vegetarians and meat lovers will find something to their liking. Tip: don’t be put off by the queue that can form around lunchtime.
Weesperplein 4
The best roti in Amsterdam; that’s what De Hapjeshoek at Waterlooplein metro station has been known for. For years. For students at Roeterseiland, it has become even more appealing now that a branch has opened at Weesperplein station. If you’re seriously hungry at lunchtime, go for a roti roll or a bara.
Langebrugsteeg 4
Alright, it may not be the cheapest option, but for lovers of cake, pastries and other sweet treats, this spot, close to the Oudemanhuispoort, is well worth a visit. Not in the least because they offer a student discount.
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 200
A must for fish lovers at the UvA: just a three-minute walk from the PC Hoofthuis, you’ll find this charming stall. It has even been named the best herring stand in the city by food influencer Daan van der Lecq.
Roetersstraat 21
For students at Roeterseiland, it hardly gets closer to home. This takeaway spot is located directly opposite the student cinema Kriterion. And even better: the very affordable böreks they sell are delicious too. What more could you want?
